Sony plans to cut jobs
(Baonghean) - On Wednesday, February 4, in its latest announcement, Japanese company Sony has planned to cut more than 1,000 employees in a mobile phone subsidiary. The plan said that the total number of employees cut from 2015 to 2016 will be 2,100 employees.

Sony Corporation announced a plan to cut its workforce on Wednesday, with the first 15% of its workforce being cut in September 2014. Current Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai announced that about 30% of the total workforce at its subsidiary Sony Mobile Communications would be cut by the end of March 2016. This is estimated to be equivalent to nearly 5,000 layoffs.
This job cut will allow Sony to save some money in the coming years. According to some economists' analysis, Sony's job cuts will force the company to spend up to 30 billion yen in compensation in 2016 - 2017, but in return the company will save up to 90 billion yen.
Faced with fierce competition in the smartphone industry, Sony is reviewing its marketing and rebuilding its strategy. In fact, Sony's smartphone lines have been considered failures, especially in the Chinese market. In the Chinese market, Sony once bitterly commented that the battle with local manufacturers was truly hell.
Currently, Sony wants to focus on developing in markets such as the US, Japan and France. In these countries, Sony's high-end Xperia smartphone line is rated quite well. However, in the above markets, Sony also faces competition from other smartphone companies such as Samsung of Korea or Apple of the US.
