The amazing career of the man who will become the world's youngest Prime Minister

At the age of 31, Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz is on track to officially become the world's youngest leader after his People's Party (OVP) won with more than 31% of the vote in the general election.

According to RT citing preliminary results announced by the Austrian Ministry of the Interior on October 15, the OVP party led with 31.4% of the votes, while the far-right Freedom Party (FPO) came in second with 27.4% and in third place was the Social Democratic Party (SPO) of incumbent Chancellor Christian Kern with 26.7% of supporters.

Mr Kurz announced the People's Party's victory shortly after the voting results were announced.

"A great responsibility has been placed on the OVP," he wrote on Twitter, saying his party accepted the responsibility with "utmost humility". The young leader also stressed that his party's victory was "not a victory over others but an opportunity for change".

Before the election, Mr. Kurz was known as Europe's youngest foreign minister after being appointed in 2013 at the age of 27.

He became leader of the Austrian People's Party in May 2017. He began his political career as a member of the party's youth wing and served as its leader before moving to the Vienna City Council.

Nicknamed "Wunderwuzzi" (someone who can walk on water), Kurz is often compared to the young leaders of France and Canada, President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Like Mr. Macron, Mr. Kurz also created a campaign, renaming the People's Party (which has been in power for more than 30 years) as the New People's Party.
