The epic return of the legendary BMW R1200S
The legendary BMW Boxer R1200S was rebuilt by the Revival Cycles team in a modern, powerful and easy-to-control style.
In 2006, the R1200S was BMW’s most powerful boxer, with a 122-horsepower engine and a weight of under 400 pounds. But after just two years, it had to give way to the HP2 Sport. After years of hesitation, Alan Stulberg, manager of Revival Cycles in Texas, decided to revive the model. |
The mid-2000s BMW “R”s were very similar in technology to the current R9T. Particularly the telescopic forks and the engine. |
The swingarm fork outperforms conventional suspension systems in terms of stability, handling, and braking ability. So the team decided to remove the bulky upper fairing to show off the entire system and emphasize its advantages. |
After removing the plastic skin, the team began installing a custom-designed alloy fuel tank, inspired by the famous Hoske version of the 60s and 70s. “The bike is a collection of beautiful hand-made parts that the workshop has collected,” says Alan. |
The frame was replaced entirely with alloy and adapted to fit the fuel tank. The seat was also redesigned and covered in Revival's special leather. |
The small alloy headlight is housed between the yokes. Beneath it is a small alloy grille. The exhaust is completely redesigned. Most notable are the Kineo wheels, Öhlins dampers and stainless steel brake calipers. “These changes make it the most rideable BMW R we’ve ever ridden,” says Alan. |
The new design uses a full set of electrical components, turn signals, Motoscope gauges and ignition switch from Motogadget. |
Revival spent a lot of time removing scratches and polishing the bodywork. The final paint job was black and dark blue for visual effect. The front end cover and chain were replaced with carbon fiber upgrades. |
