New Subaru XV launched in Asia

The crossover model uses a new chassis and a 2-liter boxer engine.

The 2018 XV is Subaru's second model produced on the Subaru Global Platform, after the Impreza and the upcoming new generation Forester.

The biggest change is the hexagonal grille combined with C-shaped headlights, matte black painted front bumper, and aluminum alloy wheels.

Subaru has improved the interior space to accommodate more passengers. The dark interior features orange stitching, an easy-to-use 8-inch central screen, and Apple CarPlay support.

Subaru XV 2018 has two versions XV 2.0i and XV 2.0iS both use a 2-liter direct fuel injection engine with a capacity of 156 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. This boxer engine is 12 kg lighter.

The new crossover model is expected to go on sale in Vietnam from next August.

The crossover model will be officially sold in Vietnam from August. However, the price has not been announced. In the crossover segment, Subaru is the only Japanese car model that uses a boxer engine with two horizontally opposed cylinder banks. With the current version selling price at about 1.37 billion VND, nearly 500 million VND higher than its compatriot Mazda CX-5, the car is more difficult to reach domestic customers.

Subaru is building an assembly plant in Thailand, following the one in Malaysia, to conquer the Southeast Asian market thanks to tax benefits, and is expected to launch products in 2019.
