The 152mm M-47 long-barreled gun is not currently in service with the Artillery Corps but is part of the coastal defense force.
Currently, the Vietnamese Army has two artillery pieces that are considered to play a pivotal role in fire support tactics for infantry, the M-46 and D-20.

The M-46 cannon has a range of about 27.5 km with regular ammunition and up to 38 km with extended-range ammunition; fast rate of fire (maximum 8 rounds/minute) and accurate.
The M-47 cannon is the "younger brother" of the M-46, produced in limited quantities between 1954 and 1957.

The 152 mm M-47 coastal defense howitzer is in service with the Vietnam Navy. |
The M-46 and M-47 guns have the same frame, platform, with almost identical appearance and the only difference is in caliber.
The entire M-47 artillery system weighs 8,450 kg, firing 152 mm bullets weighing 43.56 kg a distance of 20.5 km, at a firing rate of about 5 - 8 rounds/minute.
So although the caliber is larger, the firing range of the M-47 is less than the M-46 but the destructive power is much higher.
The M-47 howitzer is being assigned to the Navy as coastal defense artillery, and when needed, it can be mobilized to provide battlefield fire support.
