The title of the country with the most pyramids in the world belongs to Sudan, Egypt's southern neighbor, Science Alert reported on November 27. There are 200-255 pyramids built in Sudan, while the number of pyramids in Egypt is 138.
The pyramids in Sudan were built by the Kushites of the Kingdom of Kush, an ancient civilization that dominated the area along the Nile River from 1070 BC to AD 350. The Kushites began building pyramids 500 years after the Egyptians. However, both civilizations used pyramids as burial sites.
Similar to the Egyptians, the Kushites buried members of their royal family beneath pyramids, possibly to help their souls ascend to heaven. However, the pyramids in the two countries were quite different in structure.
The Sudanese pyramids are steeper and narrower, built of stepped stones, in contrast to the smooth surfaces and wider dimensions of the Egyptian pyramids. The Kushite pyramids were 6–30 metres high, while Egyptian pyramids averaged 138 metres.

One of the largest concentrations of Kushite pyramids is the ancient city of Meroë, located near present-day central Sudan. This city alone has around 200 of the 255 pyramids, indicating that it was once a thriving urban area.
Egypt is also not the country with the largest pyramid in the world. That title belongs to the Great Pyramid of Cholula, located inside a mountain in Mexico.
