The world's smallest and lightest grenade launcher, made in Russia

Russian newspaper Izvestia, on June 28, citing close information published, the Shipunov Design Institute of the design complex in Tula introduced a prototype of a special ultra-light grenade launcher for special forces called Bur.

This source added that the Bur weapon system is the smallest and lightest shoulder-fired grenade launcher in the world today, but is very powerful. The weight of the entire launcher with warhead is only 3.5kg, but provides the same destructive power as a 120m warhead carrying 6kg of TNT explosives like modern RPGs. The effective range of the Bur grenade launcher is about 650m, and the maximum range reaches 900m.

It is not yet clear what types of warheads are equipped with the Bur grenade launcher.

According to the Izvestia newspaper, the development of the Bur grenade launcher was carried out in response to the Russian Defense Ministry's request for a powerful, lightweight weapon for special missions. The weapon is especially effective in close combat environments such as urban areas or counter-terrorism operations.

The Bur grenade launcher prototype has been used and highly appreciated by Russian special forces units.

“The special combat conditions of special units require powerful weapons, especially in close combat. The Bur grenade launcher is designed to optimize these combat conditions,” said a representative of the Shipunov Design Institute.
