Suzuki Ertiga adds diesel engine, 'fights' Toyota Innova
The 7-seat family car Suzuki Ertiga has just added a diesel engine option with a selling price of 16,500 USD in the Indonesian market to compete with the Toyota Innova.
The new Suzuki Ertiga, diesel engine version, started to be distributed in Indonesia from February 2017.
In the "island country", Suzuki Ertiga diesel is priced at 220 million rupiah, equivalent to 374 million VND. The price of Ertiga is lower than the versions of Toyota Innova, which partly creates a competitive advantage for Ertiga compared to its compatriot. Previously, Ertiga distributed the standard version and the Ertiga Dreza version in Indonesia with prices ranging from 184 - 217 million rupiah.
Compared to the gasoline version, the Suzuki Ertiga diesel version uses a 4-cylinder, 1.3-liter DDiS turbocharged diesel engine. This engine produces a maximum capacity of 89 horsepower at 4,000 rpm, maximum torque of 200 Nm at 1,750 rpm, combined with a 5-speed manual transmission.

In addition, to increase fuel economy for Ertiga, Suzuki also combines this engine with the Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) system. This version uses an integrated starter generator (ISG) and a 70 Ah, 12 V battery with engine start/stop function. According to the manufacturer's announcement, the application of these technologies helps Suzuki Ertiga diesel consume only 4.4 liters/100km.
The design of the Ertiga diesel is not much different from the gasoline version. The Japanese automaker only adjusted some exterior details such as the radiator grille, chrome-plated fog lamp bezel, electric folding rearview mirror, alloy wheels... to create highlights for the Ertiga diesel. The interior of the Suzuki Ertiga diesel still uses fabric seats, anti-glare rearview mirror, beige steering wheel and gear lever, and standard sound system.

Currently, Suzuki Ertiga is distributed in the Vietnamese market with only the 1.4 liter gasoline engine version imported from Indonesia. Therefore, it is likely that in the near future, the new version using diesel engine will also be brought to Vietnam to provide more choices for consumers.
