In an official statement, the Pentagon said the DIA had selected Royal Air Force (RAF) Vice Marshal Sean Corbett as its “first Deputy Director for Commonwealth Engagement.”
The statement added that Sean Corbett, the RAF's most senior career intelligence officer, would also be the DIA's top adviser on intelligence and defence matters relating to an alliance of English-speaking nations known as the "Five Eyes" group, which includes the US, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
The US intelligence community has long had close ties with its British counterparts, but this is the first time an American spy agency has chosen a foreigner for the top job.
