The Syrian army has regained control of a key crossroads on the border belt in Nasib, raising the Syrian government flag on the Jordanian border.

Syrian government forces on the evening of July 6 took control of the main border crossings with Jordan and officially raised a Syrian government flag at the southern end of the country's border, a correspondent for Russia's Sputnik News Agency reported.

The key Nasib crossing point was captured by the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) just a day after Syrian government forces pushed close to the border with Jordan in the largest offensive in the first half of 2018 to fully liberate the country's south.

The Nassib crossing point has a strategic position on the Syria-Jordan border.

According to Sputnik correspondent, the SAA's control over the Nasib crossing point could be due to successful negotiations between representatives of the Russian Center for Reconciliation of the Warring Parties in Syria and the leaders of the militant groups operating in the area.

It is known that before forcing the rebel groups here to surrender, the Syrian army led by the Tiger special forces attempted to capture two towns near the Nassib intersection, including the town of Al-Taybah, where the rebel groups were initially said to have accepted a reconciliation agreement, but later tore up the agreement.

In addition, the Syrian Army also attacked along the Taybah-Umm Mayadhin axis to form a siege of Nassib, aiming to defeat the rebel group called the "Southern Front Brigades" of the Free Syrian Army (FSA) currently entrenched in this area.

The Syrian army is gaining ground against opposition groups in southern Syria.

Under great pressure from the SAA, although initially declaring a "defending battle", in the end, the rebel and terrorist forces allied with the FSA forces were forced to surrender unconditionally.

With the capture of the Nassib junction, where the M5 highway connecting the Jordanian border with the capital Damascus begins, the Syrian army will continue to attack neighboring districts such as Daraa Al-Balad district of Daraa city, aiming to completely liberate the province.

The offensive in the south of the country was launched by the government of Syrian President Bashar Assad in June to regain control of the area from various terrorist groups and US-backed rebels. Some areas in the south of the country have been under rebel control since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011.
