Author of 'Hitler's Other Half' comes to Vietnam

On November 9, the author of the book 'Hitler's Other Half' will meet Vietnamese readers at an event held at the French Cultural Center L'Espace Hanoi.

Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt is of French and Belgian descent. He was born in 1960 in Sainte-Foy-lès-Lyon (France). Coming from an intellectual family, at the age of 11, Schmitt wrote his first short story.

After a period as a teacher, Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt turned entirely to writing. Two decades after his first play, The Nights of Valognes, was a success, Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt became one of the most famous French authors in the world, his books having been translated into more than 40 languages.

He has won about 30 literary awards, most notably the Goncourt Prize for short stories with the work A Love Affair at the Élysée Palace, the Grand Prize of the French Academy for all his dramatic works...

Hitler's Other Half - a famous work by Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt loved by Vietnamese readers. The Vietnamese version was translated by Nguyen Dinh Thanh.

In drama, he received the prestigious Molière Award for Theatrical Discovery of the Year, the Best Author Award and the Best Play Award from the French Private Theatres, the Balzac Academy Award, and the Grand Prix for Theatre for all his works from the French Academy.

He was also awarded the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government. In addition, Schmitt's works have received many prestigious awards in Germany and Switzerland. Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt has a doctorate in philosophy.

The discussion with writer Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt will take place at 6pm on November 9 at the hall of the French Cultural Center L'Espace Hanoi. Translator Nguyen Dinh Thanh will be the host of the event. An hour before, he had a press conference with the Vietnamese media.
