At around 2:00 a.m. on October 21, ship TB-1729 with 5 crew members was transporting sand from Hai Phong to Ha Long. When arriving at the narrow Cua Hep area of Ha Long Bay (Quang Ninh), the ship collided with ship HD-2068 carrying corn traveling from Cua Dua to Hai Phong.

The collision was quite strong, causing the corn ship to turn sideways. At that time, the barge BN-0945 carrying more than 1,300 tons of coal from Cam Pha City to Hai Phong had just arrived. The anchor of the corn ship hit the side hard, causing the barge to sink on the spot.

There were four crew members on the barge but all were safe.

Authorities are organizing to salvage the barge. Buoys have also been placed around the scene to respond to the oil spill in Ha Long Bay./.
