Taliban massacre at Pakistani school, shooting dead 84 children.
At least 100 people, including 84 students, were shot dead and over 80 others wounded after Taliban gunmen launched a bloody attack on a military-run school in Peshawar, Khyber province, northwestern Pakistan today, December 16.

Local media reported on the same day that Taliban militants had claimed responsibility for the attack. Approximately 300 students are currently being held hostage inside the school by four gunmen. Two of the six terrorists who carried out the massacre are dead, according to CNN; one committed suicide and the other was killed by security forces.
The bloody attack began when gunmen stormed the school, which had about 500 students inside, in the early morning hours, firing indiscriminately. See video and images here.

The Daily Mail quoted local police officer Javed Khan as saying that Pakistani army special forces quickly arrived at the scene and engaged in a shootout with the terrorist group.
Outside the school, initially, multiple gunshots were heard, followed by a very loud explosion. Mushtaq Ghani, spokesman for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government, said: "At least six gunmen disguised in military uniforms stormed the school." According to the official, most of the students attending the school are children of Pakistani army officers.
CNN, citing Pervez Khattak, an official in Khyber province, reported that over 80 students aged 12-16 were injured.

A reporter on the scene also said they heard multiple loud gunshots inside the school while soldiers were deployed around the school area.
A Taliban representative claimed responsibility and stated that three of their six fighters were carrying suicide bombs.
