Tran Duc Thach - a man who opposed the government - was detained.

Previously, in 2008, the Supreme People's Court sentenced Tran Duc Thach to 3 years in prison for Propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. In 2011, after completing his prison term, Tran Duc Thach returned to live in Dien Tan commune, Dien Chau district. Here, Thach lived a closed life, had no relationship or contact with neighbors or villages, and continued to have many activities that violated national security on cyberspace.

On April 24, 2013, Tran Duc Thach and a number of other reactionary and opposing elements founded the "Democratic Brotherhood Association". Thach was assigned as the chief representative of the Central region, with the task of developing forces and recruiting people with the same opposing ideology into the association.

According to the conclusion of the authorities, the "Brotherhood for Democracy" is a domestic reactionary organization, operating with the purpose of demanding pluralism and multi-party system, opposing the Communist Party of Vietnam, and ultimately overthrowing the people's government. Many members of the "Brotherhood for Democracy" have been prosecuted and dealt with by the authorities.

After founding the "Democratic Brotherhood Association", Tran Duc Thach regularly wrote many articles and composed poems and prose to post on his personal Facebook page "Tran Duc Thach" with many contents that defamed the Party and the State, distorted the history of the Vietnamese revolution, especially Thach took advantage of the fight against corruption, major political events of the country to distort the truth, history, and defame senior leaders of the Party and the State.

Faced with these violations, Nghe An Police met with Thach many times and asked him to write a commitment to abandon his violations, but he continued to draft, post, and share many articles with anti-government content, distorting the policies of the Party and State.

On April 23, 2020, the Investigation Security Agency of Nghe An Provincial Police coordinated with professional units to execute the Arrest Warrant and temporarily detain Tran Duc Thach for the act of Activities aimed at overthrowing the people's government. Through a search at his private home in Dien Hai Commune, Dien Chau District, the police seized 2 mobile phones, 2 laptops, 1 tablet, 1 desktop computer and many other related documents of Tran Duc Thach.
