Suspend poultry imports from the US due to bird flu
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has just decided to temporarily suspend the import of poultry and poultry products from the United States...
Specifically, the decision of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development stated that from March 10, the import of poultry and poultry products that have not been heat-treated from the states of Wisconsin and Tennessee will be temporarily suspended. The reason is that there is an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza H7 and low pathogenic avian influenza H5N2.
The Ministry assigned the Department of Animal Health to strictly control shipments of poultry and poultry products that have not been heat-treated from states with avian influenza outbreaks but have not been loaded onto ships or planes for transport from the United States to Vietnam before March 10, 2017.
The Department of Animal Health has officially notified the competent authorities of the United States for coordination. At the same time, the organization will inspect and confirm that the United States has controlled the avian influenza epidemic according to the regulations of the World Organization for Animal Health and report to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Earlier, the World Organization for Animal Health said that the United States reported an outbreak of bird flu at a livestock farm in the state of Wisconsin, in the Midwestern United States.
A low-pathogenic strain of the virus, H5N2, was detected in a flock of 84,000 turkeys in Barron County. The turkeys were then sampled and showed signs of depression. The farms with infected birds were quickly quarantined.
The outbreak comes just a week after a flock of breeding chickens on a Tennessee farm was found to be infected with the highly pathogenic H7 virus. 73,500 chickens there died, while those that survived had difficulty breathing and foamed at the mouth.
The incident caused many Asian markets such as South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong (China) to immediately restrict imports of US eggs and poultry.
