Silkworm pupae - A precious medicinal ingredient

The calcareous silkworm, also known as the wind-killed silkworm, has the effect of dispelling wind and calming convulsions, dispersing phlegm and lumps, and detoxifying,...when combined with the following medicinal herbs.


Pre-processed silkworm pupae.

Here are some medicinal remedies that use silkworms:

For stroke causing facial paralysis: 10g of silkworm pupae, 10g of white aconite, 1 centipede, 20g of seaweed, decoct and drink.

For children with convulsions: 10g of silkworm pupae, 10g of mint, 15g of Uncaria rhynchophylla, 15g of Cicada moulting, decocted and drunk.

Peripheral facial nerve paralysis (VII cranial nerve palsy): 15g of silkworm pupa, 15g of scorpion, 15g of aconite, 15g of Arisaema amurense, all dried and powdered. Take 5g three times a day.

For hives and itchy skin: take 10g each of silkworm pupae, bitter ginseng, and ground aconite, 5g of ephedra, and 15g of tribulus terrestris, decoct and drink.

Headache due to wind-heat: equal amounts of silkworm pupae and galangal, dried and powdered, take 1.5g each time with a decoction of jujube. Or, 6g of silkworm pupae, 6g of horsetail, 6g of mint, 9g of mulberry leaves, 3g of raw licorice, decoct and drink.

For pulmonary tuberculosis with cavities: Take equal amounts of white silkworm pupae, white atractylodes, and charcoal from ground ivy, grind into a powder, and take 6g twice daily.

For mothers with insufficient milk production: take 6g of white silkworm powder with diluted wine.

Acute mastitis: Mix white silkworm powder with white vinegar and apply to the inflamed area once a day, combined with drinking a decoction of dandelion and honeysuckle, 30g of each.

For lymphadenitis: 10g of white silkworm pupae, 30g of water lily, 15g of salvia miltiorrhiza, 30g of oyster shell, decoct and drink one dose daily.

For sore throat and hoarseness: Grind 5g of silkworm pupae, 1g of alum, and 1g of black alum into a fine powder. Take 2g of the powder and decoct it with 1g of mint leaves and 1g of fresh ginger. Use the resulting liquid to rinse and gargle. Alternatively, take 6g of silkworm pupae and 6g of Arisaema amurense, dry them, grind them into a powder, and drink with fresh ginger water.

Treatment for facial hyperpigmentation: Finely powdered silkworm pupae mixed with water, apply to the dark spots once every night.

Migraine: Grind 4g of white silkworm pupae into a powder and mix with water to drink.

Leukorrhea with white or reddish discharge: Wash silkworm pupae with rice water, remove the head and legs, dry and grind into a powder, take 2 coins worth each time with wine.
