The ultimate pain of a woman whose husband and children are both in prison
Her husband got addicted to drugs and was sentenced to prison, making her extremely disappointed. Her greatest comfort was her children. However, that child also got addicted and “went to jail and out of prison” like a daily meal, making her cry until she had no more tears left…
The child slides into sin
Ha Van Doan (32 years old), residing in Muong Noc commune, Que Phong district, is the eldest child of Loc TB (52 years old). Unlike his peers, Doan dropped out of middle school and soon fell into partying and socializing. From the times he tried drugs, Doan got hooked on that banned substance without realizing it.
In 2009, when he was only 17 years old, Ha Van Doan put a black mark on his life with an 18-month prison sentence for "Illegal possession of drugs". After being released from prison (in 2014), this young man got involved in the "two-finger" problem and was sentenced to 9 months in prison for the crime of "Theft of property".
After completing his prison sentence and returning to the community, Doan relapsed into drug addiction. Therefore, in 2018, Doan was forced by the People's Court of Que Phong district to undergo compulsory drug rehabilitation for 18 months.
But it seems that those measures did not help him break away from the "brown fairy". He still sought out that banned substance to satisfy his needs. Therefore, in 2020, Ha Van Doan was sentenced to 30 months in prison for "Illegal possession of narcotics".

After the failures, Doan's relatives always hoped that Doan would turn around and do good. Especially looking at the young child who had to live as an orphan for many years, and whose father was often in prison. However, the young father sank deeper into the wrong path. This time, Doan spent a large sum of money to trade drugs and was arrested.
The indictment shows that while in prison, Ha Van Doan met a fellow prisoner from Ha Tinh named Nguyen Van Ky. At the end of August 2023, after being released from prison, Ky called Doan to buy 30 packages of pink phien, agreeing on a price of 80 million VND. Ky transferred 55 million VND in advance, and agreed to pay the remaining amount when he received the drugs.
To have drugs to sell to customers, Doan contacted a man named Vu (unknown identity and background) in Tri Le commune, Que Phong district to buy 90 packages of pink drugs, priced at 92 million VND.
On the morning of September 10, 2023, at Vu's camp, the two parties conducted a drug transaction. Doan planned to sell 30 packages of the above drugs to customers, and kept the rest for later sale. However, this man's business dealings were exposed by the authorities. Ha Van Doan was arrested by the police with evidence of more than 1.8 kg.
For the above crime, Doan was prosecuted and brought to trial for "Illegal drug trafficking". At the trial held at the end of October, the defendant admitted to drug trafficking.
Regarding the reason for committing the crime, the defendant stated that after being released from prison, he did not have a stable job and wanted to make money quickly, so he traded drugs even though he knew that his behavior was against the law. The defendant presented his difficult circumstances, his wife had passed away, and his school-age children were living alone, asking the court to consider reducing his sentence.
The pain of a woman whose husband and children are in prison
Sitting quietly attending her son’s trial, the mother in her 50s bowed her head several times, feeling sad. This was not the first time she had felt ashamed to go to court, because her son had been tried many times before. It was also her son who had caused her so much pain over the years.
Today, when she came to court, the mother not only asked for a reduced sentence for her son but also asked the panel of judges to consider returning the motorbike that Doan used to buy and sell drugs. According to her statement, that motorbike was her property. When her son took it to deliver drugs, she was completely unaware of what he was doing. “That motorbike is now my biggest asset,” she stated in court.

In the hallway of the court, the mother shed tears when someone mentioned her husband and son. Not only was her son in prison for drugs, but her husband was also serving a sentence in a prison in Quang Binh province. The woman sadly shared that her husband was currently serving a 13-year sentence for drug-related crimes. Notably, before this prison term, the man had also been in prison for drugs.
Both her husband and son were addicted to drugs, which made her depressed. For many years, she had to take care of her family alone, take care of her orphaned grandchild, her elderly mother, and arrange to visit her husband in prison.
She added that she had to take advantage of the time when she went to court this time. A few days before, her mother had suffered a stroke and was currently being treated at the provincial hospital. “So many sad things happened to my family at the same time that I didn’t know how to handle it. I was taking care of my elderly mother, while grieving over my husband and children in prison. Not to mention the uncertain future of my grandchildren when my mother had passed away and now my father was in prison,” Mrs. B. choked up and held back a sigh as she spoke.
Sitting a few rows away, the defendant Doan's little child, born in 2009, sobbed many times when she saw her father. Her mother died and her father was often in prison, so she had to live in a state of emotional deprivation since she was young. Although her relatives always encouraged her to study hard and make up for her feelings, the pain she had to go through was too much for a little girl.
Seeing his son in a difficult situation, Doan only had time to apologize and encourage him to study hard and obey his grandmother. The young father promised his son that he would try to reform himself to return to his daughter soon. However, with a large amount of drugs, Ha Van Doan was sentenced to life in prison by the People's Court for "Illegal drug trafficking".
Hearing the verdict, the mother could only bow her head in her chair, helpless as the sky seemed to collapse before her eyes. Both her son and her husband were in prison for drugs, which multiplied the pain in the woman’s heart…
