New Nam Dinh coach used to play for SLNA
(Baonghean.vn) - Former Nam Dinh and SLNA striker Nguyen Van Dung has officially become the new captain of the Thien Truong Stadium team.
After a series of bad matches of Nam Dinh in the past time, the Board of Directors of the team from Thanh Nam decided to change the highest position on the coaching bench. Coach Nguyen Van Sy was promoted to Technical Director, the person taking over the position that Mr. Sy just left is Coach Nguyen Van Dung. Mr. Dung is the real brother of Coach Nguyen Van Sy.
Nguyen Van Dung is a famous football player from Nam Dinh. He won the A1 championship (equivalent to the current V.League) with the Ha Nam Ninh Industrial Football Team in the 1985 season. During his career, Nguyen Van Dung also won the Golden Boot award 4 times in the highest league of Vietnamese football (in 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1998).

In addition to the record for winning the Golden Boot, the former striker born in 1963 is also the oldest player to win the Golden Boot (35 years old). During his peak playing time, Nguyen Van Dung played for the Nghe An team, then called Song Lam Nghe Tinh (in 1992) and was given the captain's armband by coach Nguyen Thanh Vinh.
In the international arena, Nguyen Van Dung once participated in the SEA Games (1991) and once participated in the AFF Cup (1998) in the Vietnam National Team. However, in the rare times he was called up to the national team, the former Nam Dinh and SLNA player did not show much. He decided to retire at the age of 37 (2000).
Thus, Nam Dinh's first match under new coach Nguyen Van Dung will be against the defending champion Hanoi in round 11 of V.League, taking place on the afternoon of May 24. Currently, Nam Dinh is temporarily in 12th place with 9 points in hand. Coach Nguyen Van Dung's task is nothing other than helping the team at Thien Truong Stadium play better in the next phase of V.League 2019, to win the right to stay in the league./.
