New Miss Iraq stripped of crown for marriage fraud

The Miss Iraq pageant organizers have just decided to revoke Viyan Amir's title because she is married.

The organizers of the Miss Iraq pageant announced on August 3 that they had stripped Viyan Amir of her crown. According to the organizers, the 23-year-old beauty queen had lied about her marital status.

“We decided to strip her of the crown because she violated the contest rules. According to the contest requirements, candidates are only allowed to register if they are not married in any form and have not given birth. Viyan Amir is married or may be separated. She violated the contest rules,” said a representative of the organizing committee.

The organizers said they were informed that she had married a businessman. Her friends also knew about this. On her personal page, the beauty had set her status as "married" and only removed it before the beauty pageant. Sources said the Miss Iraq 2017 crown was transferred to the first runner-up.

Previously, beauty Amir was crowned the most prestigious title after surpassing many strong candidates in the final night held at the end of May. Viyan cried a lot on the coronation night.

Iraq had not held a beauty pageant for 40 years. In 2015, Miss Iraq was restarted for the first time. Shaymaa Abdelrahman, who was 20 years old that year, became the country's first Miss Iraq in four decades.
