(Baonghean.vn)Tan Son, a semi-mountainous area nestled between the Hon Suong, Ba Xanh, and Ba Quanh mountain ranges, has, over the past thirty years, transformed from a barren hillside into a prosperous and thriving rural community thanks to the people of Quynh Luu who have settled here, reclaimed land, and established villages.

The smooth, paved road made the more than 5km journey from Tuan Junction to Tan Son commune easy. From afar, we could see colorful multi-story houses peeking out from the green of the mountains and forests. Mr. Ho Sy Hao, an official from Tan Son commune, said proudly: "Tan Son is a mountainous district, but now it has many 'firsts'. This is the largest vegetable farming area in Quynh Luu district, it's a leading commune in the reforestation movement, and it's also the first mountainous commune in the entire district to have 3 schools that meet national standards for education..."

Tan Son, formerly a desolate mountainous area far from the district center, was virtually uninhabited. From 1964, following the policy of Quynh Luu district, people from coastal communes and some densely populated communes voluntarily migrated here to develop the economy.

Directive 100-CT/TW of the Central Party Secretariat dated January 13, 1981, on product quotas held special significance for the people of Tan Son, because just 10 months later, the Council of Ministers signed a decision to separate Quynh Tam commune into two communes: Quynh Tam and Tan Son. Just over a month after its establishment, despite the commune's extremely difficult conditions – no schools, virtually no transportation infrastructure – the Party Committee, at its first Party Congress, outlined a specific action plan: The entire Party and people would mobilize to build irrigation systems, straighten canals, reinforce dikes and dams, and prioritize boosting agricultural production… Leading us to visit the vast rice fields and lush vegetable gardens ready for harvest, Mr. Dau Phi Chau, Chairman of the Tan Son Commune People's Committee, affirmed: Without the correct strategies from the beginning by previous generations of leaders, Tan Son could not have developed as rapidly as it has today. That is the result of a combined strength stemming from the will, the people, the right policies, and the spirit of unity, cooperation, and solidarity of the entire population.

Thanks to this, Tan Son has made remarkable progress. Few would have imagined that this once barren, rocky rural area, lacking irrigation water, now boasts a robust system of canals and dams. Tan Son has become the largest vegetable farming area in Quynh Luu district, and a rice granary with over 95% of its land planted with hybrid rice. It also has the largest area of forest cover in the district, with 1,662 hectares of planted and maintained forests.

Tan Son is also famous for its successful deer farming, with over 1000 deer currently being raised by families. The commune has 50 transport and passenger vehicles, which are the main means of transporting the commune's vegetables for daily consumption throughout the province. Thanks to economic development, the commune's culture, education, and health are also given attention by the government and people. Currently, the three kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools, as well as the commune's health station, have achieved national standards. In the past five years, 117 students have been admitted to colleges, and 147 students have been admitted to universities. The work of showing gratitude and providing timely and complete benefits and policies is well-managed; poverty reduction is prioritized; local defense and military tasks are always emphasized; and the mass movement to protect security and order is given attention by the Party Committee, government, and people.

The achievements made over the past thirty years serve as motivation for the Party Committee and people of Tan Son commune to enter the next phase of building Tan Son into a prosperous commune of the entire province.
