Strengthen the management of breeding pigs and animal feed.

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of June 30th, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a conference to implement the management of breeding boars and animal feed in 2015.

Overview of the conference.

The purpose of implementing boar breeding management is to strengthen livestock breeding management to meet the requirements of restructuring the livestock industry towards sustainability, efficiency, and increased added value; to enhance inspection and supervision of boar breeding quality, promote effective breeding, and improve the quality of the province's pig herd; and to raise awareness among farmers in breed selection, breeding, semen use, and the use of boars for artificial insemination of sows.

Accordingly, the plan includes the following contents: Implementing statistics and classification of breeding boars; evaluating, classifying, and ear-tapping breeding boars and publicly disclosing the results; processing results, entering data, information, and records for monitoring breeding boars; and strengthening communication efforts to farmers about the benefits of using standard breeding boars and the harms of using poor-quality breeding boars.

The conference also discussed and implemented the management of animal feed in the province. Accordingly, in addition to disseminating information about regulations in this field, it also strengthened the inspection of compliance with legal regulations related to the quality and safety of animal feed; inspected the conditions of production and business establishments and the safety of animal feed; inspected and monitored the quality and food safety of raw materials and finished animal feed products; and inspected and monitored the use of banned substances in the production and use of animal feed.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Luu Cong Hoa, Head of the Livestock Department of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, stated: After the provincial-level conference, the districts will organize conferences to implement and disseminate specific contents down to the grassroots level and to livestock farmers.

Concluding the conference, Mr. Vi Luu Binh, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, stated: Breeding plays a particularly important role in livestock development, being one of the prerequisites for product quality and farming efficiency. However, in recent times, this work has still faced many shortcomings and has not met the needs of livestock farmers in the province. Along with this is the widespread abuse of banned substances, stimulants, and antibiotics, affecting the psychology and health of consumers. Currently, there are 3 factories and over 70 manufacturers supplying animal feed in the province with hundreds of different products. Investigations show that 100% of farms and over 60% of households use industrial feed, some using leftover feed or supplements, veterinary drugs, etc., which pose a high risk to quality and food safety.

Comrade Vi Luu Binh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development affirmed: Breeding and animal feed play a particularly important role in the development of livestock farming.

Given the increasing demands of livestock development, consumer needs, and the challenges of economic integration, the management of breeding boars and animal feed is considered a necessary and mandatory requirement. Following the provincial-level conference, districts will organize conferences to implement this plan. Accordingly, each specific issue of these plans must be implemented down to the grassroots management level and disseminated to livestock farmers so that they can make the best choices in livestock development.
