Strengthen enforcement against overloaded vehicles.

The Ministry of Transport has recently issued công văn (official letter) No. 2253/BGTVT-ATGT requesting the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-administered cities to strengthen enforcement against overloaded vehicles participating in road traffic.

According to the Ministry of Transport, in recent times, the number of trucks carrying goods exceeding the permitted load capacity of the vehicle, bridges, and roads has been on the rise, posing a potential risk to traffic safety and directly causing damage to road infrastructure.

To illustrate this point, the Ministry of Transport acknowledges that numerous traffic accidents have occurred due to overloaded vehicles causing weak bridges to collapse or break, and vehicles to overturn when traveling on curves and steep mountain passes, resulting in traffic congestion for hours.

To ensure the quality of roads across provinces and cities, prevent overloaded cargo vehicles, contribute to curbing and reducing traffic accidents, and extend the lifespan of transportation infrastructure, the Ministry of Transport requests the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-governed cities to direct functional forces to strengthen inspection, patrol, and control to detect and strictly handle cases of vehicles carrying loads exceeding the permitted weight limits for vehicles, bridges, and roads participating in traffic in their areas.

Local transport businesses and businesses involved in the production and handling of goods must not overload their vehicles. In areas where goods are collected, factories, production facilities, and ports equipped with vehicle weighing scales, vehicle weight checks must be conducted before allowing vehicles to transport goods on the road.

Road transport businesses should strengthen the dissemination of information and laws on road traffic safety to their drivers, so that they voluntarily comply with regulations on vehicle load limits when participating in traffic.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Transport also requested the Vietnam Road Administration to direct road management units to strengthen coordination with local police and traffic inspectors to implement effective measures to promptly put an end to the above situation.
