Strengthening the handling of overloaded vehicles
The Ministry of Transport has just issued Official Letter No. 2253/BGTVT-ATGT requesting the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to strengthen the handling of overloaded vehicles participating in road traffic.
According to the assessment of the Ministry of Transport, recently, the number of trucks carrying goods exceeding the permitted load of vehicles, bridges and roads has been increasing, posing a potential risk to traffic safety and a direct cause of damage to road traffic works.

Citing this issue, the Ministry of Transport admitted that in reality, there have been many traffic accidents caused by overloaded vehicles collapsing, breaking weak bridges, and toppling over when going through curved roads and steep passes, causing traffic jams for many hours.
To ensure the quality of routes through provinces and cities, prevent overloaded trucks, contribute to controlling and reducing traffic accidents and prolonging the life of traffic works, the Ministry of Transport requests the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to direct functional forces to strengthen inspection, patrol, control, detect and strictly handle cases of trucks overloading the permitted weight of vehicles, bridges and roads participating in traffic in the area.
Local transport businesses, goods manufacturing and loading and unloading businesses must not load goods that exceed the vehicle's load capacity. In cargo gathering areas, factories, production facilities and ports equipped with vehicle scales, it is necessary to check the vehicle's load capacity before allowing the vehicle to transport goods on the road.
Road transport enterprises should increase propaganda and dissemination of laws on road traffic safety and order to their drivers, so that they voluntarily comply with regulations on vehicle load when participating in traffic.
In addition, the Ministry of Transport also requested the Vietnam Road Administration to direct road management units to strengthen coordination with local police and traffic inspectors to deploy effective measures to soon end the above situation./.
