SLOGANS AND MESSAGES FOR CHILDREN'S ACTION MONTH 2013

2013 marked the 20th anniversary of the nationwide launch of the Month of Action for Children, themed "Creating Equal Development Opportunities for Poor Children and Children from Ethnic Minorities." This was a major communication and social mobilization event aimed at implementing Directive 20-CT/TW of the Politburo on strengthening the Party's leadership over the care, education, and protection of children in the new situation.

On May 27th, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs held a press conference to launch the activities of the 2013 Action Month for Children.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Huu, Director of the Department of Child Protection and Care (Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs), stated: Over the years, the State has issued many policies to assist poor children, children with special circumstances, ethnic minority children, and children in remote areas... These policies have broad and comprehensive coverage; thanks to which the lives and rights of children are better ensured. However, there are still inadequacies and inequalities for children from low-income families and ethnic minority children in accessing quality public services such as healthcare and education...; many poor children and children in ethnic minority and disadvantaged areas still lack food, clothing, and have limited opportunities to fully enjoy their rights.

Therefore, in 2013, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs launched the Month of Action for Children (from June 1st to June 30th), with the theme "Creating Equal Development Opportunities for Poor Children and Children from Ethnic Minorities" to further promote the attention of Party committees, governments, sectors, and the entire society in building and effectively implementing policies to assist poor children and children from ethnic minorities; mobilizing the whole society to join hands and contribute materially and spiritually to children so that children in all parts of the country have equal opportunities for development, a full life, and access to healthcare and education.

The main activities of the Month of Action for Children include: Communication to raise social awareness about the care, education, and protection of children; strengthening information dissemination, opening forums for dialogue, commentary, and guidance on policies, laws, and regulations related to the care, education, and protection of children and the implementation of children's rights in the new context.

In addition, we encourage social organizations, businesses, and individuals to contribute to improving the lives of children, achieving goals for children, especially creating equal development opportunities; and commending poor children and children from ethnic minorities who overcome difficulties and strive for success.

During this Action Month, all sectors and levels are responsible for coordinating and creating conditions for all children, especially poor children and children from ethnic minorities, to have a safe and healthy summer vacation; integrating the activities of the Action Month for Children with the 2013 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign and the Year of the Vietnamese Family. Provinces and cities will organize Children's Forums at all levels, leading up to the 3rd National Children's Forum which will take place in August.

The launching ceremony for the 2013 Month of Action for Children will be held on June 1st in Hanoi and will be broadcast live on H1 and HiTV channels of Hanoi Radio and Television.
