2013 is the 20th year that the Month of Action for Children has been launched nationwide with the theme “Creating equal development opportunities for poor children and ethnic minority children”. This is a major communication and social mobilization event to implement Directive 20-CT/TW of the Politburo on strengthening the Party’s leadership in the work of caring for, educating and protecting children in the new situation.

Mr. Nguyen Hai Huu, Director of the Department of Child Protection and Care (Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs) said: In recent years, the State has issued many policies to support poor children, children in special circumstances, children of ethnic minorities, children in remote and isolated areas... The policies have wide coverage, quite comprehensive; thanks to that, the lives and rights of children are better guaranteed. However, there are still inadequacies and inequalities for children in low-income families, children of ethnic minorities in accessing quality public services such as health care, education...; there are still many poor children, children in ethnic minority and disadvantaged areas who lack food and clothing, and have little opportunity to fully enjoy their rights.
Therefore, in 2013, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs launched the Month of Action for Children (from June 1 to June 30), with the theme "Creating equal development opportunities for poor children and ethnic minority children" to further promote the attention of Party committees, authorities, sectors and the whole society in building and effectively implementing policies to support poor children and ethnic minority children; mobilizing the whole society to join hands, contribute materially and spiritually to children so that children in all regions of the country have equal development opportunities, have a full life, and access to health care and education.
The main activities of the Month of Action for Children include: Communication to raise social awareness about child care, education and protection; enhancing information, opening forums for dialogue, comments, and orientation on guidelines, laws and policies related to child care, education, protection and implementation of children's rights in the new situation.
Along with that, mobilize social organizations, businesses and individuals to contribute to improving children's lives, realizing goals for children, especially creating equal development opportunities; praising poor children and ethnic minority children who overcome difficulties to rise up.
During this Action Month, all sectors and levels are responsible for coordinating and creating conditions for all children, especially poor children and ethnic minority children, to have a safe and healthy summer vacation; integrating the activities of the Action Month for Children with the 2013 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign and the Year of the Vietnamese Family. Provinces and cities organize Children's Forums at all levels, towards the 3rd National Children's Forum to take place next August.
The launching ceremony of the Month of Action for Children 2013 will be held on June 1 in Hanoi and broadcast live on H1 and HiTV channels of Hanoi Radio and Television.
