According to the report, the total grain production of the 2013-2014 Winter-Spring crop in the province is estimated at 769,370 tons, an increase of 1.87% compared to the same period. Of this, the yield of some crops was quite high: rice is estimated at 66 quintals/hectare, with an estimated rice production of 595,640 tons; corn is estimated at 44 quintals/hectare, an increase of nearly 19% compared to the same period. The industrial production index in May increased by 0.37% compared to the same period in 2013; for the first five months of the year, the industrial production index increased by 9.18% compared to the same period. Goods export turnover in May is estimated at 31.48 million VND, and the cumulative export turnover for the first five months is estimated at 128.67 million USD, an increase of more than 15% compared to the same period. Import turnover in May was estimated at US$27.44 million, a decrease of 19.61%, while the cumulative import turnover for the first five months was estimated at US$95.14 million, an increase of 34.75% compared to the same period last year. The consumer price index decreased by 0.02% compared to April 2014.

In May, the province continued to focus on accelerating the construction progress of key projects such as National Highway 1A and the National Highway 46 overpass. Regarding investment attraction, as of May 16, 2014, the province had granted investment certificates to 33 projects, with a total registered investment capital of over 9,650 billion VND. Among these, several projects have large investment scales, such as the Hanoi – Kim Lien Urban and Hotel Complex project; and the Lan Chau – Song Ngu Eco-tourism, Resort, Sports, and Entertainment Complex. Budget revenue for the first five months of the year is estimated at over 2,693 billion VND, reaching 40% of the projected target. Budget expenditure is estimated at over 6,527 billion VND, reaching 40.5% of the projected target.

In the socio-cultural field, in May, all levels of education completed the 2013-2014 school year program; organized the high school graduation exam, and handed over 51,000 application files for university, college, and vocational school entrance exams. The province also successfully organized the commemoration of the 124th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birth, associated with the Sen Village festival; and coordinated with Ha Tinh province to organize an international conference on Nghe Tinh folk songs. The tourism sector also welcomed 740,000 visitors, including 6,350 international tourists.

Regarding Party building work, Comrade Nguyen Xuan Duong pointed out that all levels and sectors should thoroughly understand and implement Directive 36-CT/TW of the Politburo on Party congresses at all levels leading up to the 12th National Congress of the Party; review and supplement the planning of leading and managerial cadres for the 2015-2020 term; continue to consolidate cadres in some districts and sectors; and direct the Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Nghe An province for the 2014-2019 term. In addition, all levels and sectors should continue to widely and correctly disseminate information about China's illegal placement of the Haiyang 981 oil rig on the continental shelf and exclusive economic zone of Vietnam.
