Director of department is being considered for punishment for slapping a driver for going the wrong way

The Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee is clarifying the case of the Director of the Department of Science and Technology slapping a driver during a business trip.

On August 8, Ninh Binh Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Thi Thanh said that the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Committee is clarifying the case of Mr. Vu Duc Dung, Director of the Department of Science and Technology, beating driver Vu Ham Linh for driving the wrong way while on a business trip.

"After the verification results are available, the Provincial Party Standing Committee will meet and take appropriate action," said Ms. Thanh.

Mr. Vu Ham Linh, driver of the Department of Science and Technology of Ninh Binh province, reported that on July 13, as assigned by the Department Office, he drove the agency car to take Mr. Dung and two other specialists to Nghe An for work. That same evening, the delegations were invited to dinner by the Department of Science and Technology of Nghe An.

After dinner, Mr. Dung's group left. The car was also carrying two other delegation members for a ride back to the hotel. Because it was dark and he was unfamiliar with the area, Mr. Linh took the wrong route. Mr. Dung was upset and asked the driver to let him off so he could walk home. When he saw the director getting off the car, a specialist ran after him to find a taxi for Mr. Dung. Driver Linh also ran after him to apologize and invite the leader back to the car. Mr. Dung refused, slapped the driver and took a taxi home himself.

Being slapped by the boss, Mr. Linh and some officers in the car were quite surprised. They then returned to the hotel. The next day, the driver took Mr. Dung to work in Nghe An as usual.

Those involved reported that during that meal, Mr. Dung drank alcohol but not much.

Driver Vu Ham Linh said that a few days after the business trip, Mr. Dung took the initiative to meet and apologize. “Mr. Dung sent me messages and apologized many times for his bad actions during the business trip. I accepted the director's apology,” Mr. Linh said.

Admitting to slapping the driver, Mr. Vu Duc Dung, Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ninh Binh province, refused to answer details of the incident.

Mr. Vu Duc Dung (52 years old) took office as Director of the Department of Science and Technology in January 2016. Previously, he held the positions of Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs, Chairman of the Kim Son District People's Committee, and Chief of the Provincial Party Committee's Office.
