Chinese fishing vessel No. 11209 rammed and sank Vietnamese fishing vessel DNA 90152 south-southwest of the Hai Duong 981 oil rig.

According to VTV's news broadcast, at 4 PM on May 26th, Chinese fishing vessel No. 11209 rammed and sank Vietnamese fishing vessel DNA 90152 south-southwest of the Hai Duong 981 oil rig, 17 nautical miles away.

Ten fishermen on board the fishing vessel ĐNa 90152 were safely rescued by Vietnamese fishing boats.

At the time of the incident, 40 Chinese fishing vessels brazenly surrounded a group of Vietnamese fishing boats.

Meanwhile, on the afternoon of May 26th, a representative from the Fisheries Surveillance Department informed VOV.VN that the situation on the ground in the area where China illegally placed the Haiyang 981 oil rig in Vietnam's exclusive economic zone remains very tense.

According to Mr. Ha Le, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Fisheries Surveillance Department, Chinese coast guard vessels, tugboats, and transport ships continue to organize into groups of 8 to 10 vessels to approach Vietnamese ships, encircling, ramming, and spraying water. These actions by Chinese ships show no sign of abating when Vietnamese ships approach within 5 to 6 nautical miles of the oil rig.

Fisheries patrol forces also detected Chinese fast attack missile boats and military missile-carrying vessels operating 15-30 nautical miles from the oil rig.

According to Mr. Ha Le, based on observations, it is possible that China is moving the drilling rig towards the north.
