Boat carrying 12 people sank at sea in Ha Tinh
Thanh Cong 999 sank at 11:53 this morning, 5 nautical miles from Vung Ang port (Ky Anh town). Rescuers have not yet found the 12 people on board.
"Before the ship sank, the crew called the authorities. Everyone arrived at the scene, but the vehicle and people were not found yet. The unit is mobilizing many forces, including fishing boats and local vessels, to participate in the rescue," said Truong Minh Tuan, Director of Ha Tinh Maritime Port Authority.
According to the announcement of the Port Authority, the Thanh Cong 999 ship has a capacity of over 6,000 tons, carrying 11 crew members and 1 passenger. The sea area where the ship sank has strong winds of level 7-8, waves 3-5 meters high.
Storm No. 5 (international name: Typhoon Matmo) formed from a low pressure area near the East Sea on October 27. On the morning of October 28, this low pressure area crossed the northern Philippines and entered the East Sea, strengthening into a tropical depression in the afternoon of the same day. On the evening of October 29, the tropical depression strengthened into a storm.
Late on the evening of October 30, the eye of the storm made landfall in the provinces of Binh Dinh - Phu Yen with the strongest winds of level 8-9, gusts of level 11-12 and caused very heavy rain (200-300mm) in the provinces from Quang Ngai to Phu Yen.
The central provinces were also affected by the storm circulation with heavy rain and strong winds at sea.
