Ship CSB 8020 is about to depart for Vietnam?
Patrol boat CSB 8020 has completed major repairs and is ready for handover in the near future.
Vietnam's CSB 8020 patrol boat is derived from the USCGC Morgenthau (WHEC 722) Hamilton class of the United States Coast Guard. The ship received the transfer decision in the middle of this year and then underwent a major overhaul and crew training in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The latest images of the CSB 8020 have recently appeared on foreign military websites. The ship has been completely painted compared to its appearance last month. Fire control radars for the 76.2 mm Oto Breda cannon and maritime navigation radar have been fully installed.

The latest photo of Vietnam's CSB 8020 ship shows that the ship is 100% complete. |
The most notable detail in the photo above is that the CSB 8020 is being towed out of the pier by a tugboat. With its 100% complete condition, it has been speculated that it is preparing to leave Honolulu port to return to Vietnam.
But according to an update from marinetraffic.com, the ship is still in Hawaii, at anchor and has not yet departed. It may not be until the end of November that the ship with the maritime mobile service identifier MMSI 574120033 officially sets sail.
Another point to note is that the Phalanx CIWS 20mm rapid-fire gun system module located at the tail, behind the helicopter deck, has been removed.

However, the structure of the Hamilton-class patrol ship is relatively open because it was originally designed to carry powerful weapons such as anti-ship missiles and anti-submarine torpedoes to support the US Navy during the Cold War.
If the operating force has the need, they can completely convert it in a short time to bring new power, turning the ship into a true 3,000-ton frigate.
