What is special about the newly delivered Vietnamese landing ship?
Yesterday (March 8), Song Thu Corporation and Damen Group (Netherlands) held a handover ceremony of landing/logistics ship Roro 5612/YN 541051 to Senan Company (Panama).
The on-time delivery of a modern ship like Roro 5612/YN 541051 with high quality to a foreign partner is a new step affirming the reputation and capacity of the Vietnamese military shipbuilding industry in the world market.
In addition, the above event also opens up a direction for us to equip our navy with similar ships after having experience and skillfully manufacturing them for foreign countries.
Some examples include the patrol vessel SPa 4207 or the submarine rescue vessel RGS 9316.

The Damen Roro 5612 landing/logistics ship has basic parameters including: length 57.27 m; width 12 m; full load displacement 600 tons; maximum speed 10.4 nautical miles/h.
Unlike conventional landing ships that can approach the shore to land, the Damen Roro 5612 can only land at sea or at a location with a suitable pier.
The design of the Damen Roro 5612 is suitable for transport and supply to islands. It can carry light amphibious armored vehicles. The ship is not capable of carrying tanks or heavy armored vehicles.

More specifically, the Damen Roro 5612 ship is designed to carry 42 containers.
Being able to carry containers allows the Damen Roro 5612 to be equipped with Klub-K missile launchers disguised as regular cargo containers.
This is a direction that Vietnam has expressed deep interest in and was also "suggested" by Russia to strengthen the power of the "guerrilla at sea" tactic while the size of the missile fleet is not really large.
Not only Klub-K with 3M54 supersonic missiles, in the future Vietnam is fully capable of manufacturing a "domestic Klub-K" variant with containers containing KCT 15 missiles to enhance autonomy in weapons and equipment.
In addition, once Vietnam has mastered the construction of the Roro 5612 ship, it is entirely possible to think about the prospect of continuing to manufacture larger landing ships based on the design of the Damen Group.
