Cargo ship sinks fishing boat, 7 fishermen rescued
(Baonghean.vn) - At around 11:00 a.m. on March 5, a fishing boat of fishermen from Quynh Luu, Nghe An was suddenly sunk by a North-South cargo ship at sea, 7 fishermen were luckily rescued.
According to Mr. Hoang Son - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Son Hai Commune (Quynh Luu), fishing boat number NA 93961, captained by Mr. Tran Sao Mai in Hamlet 9, Son Hai Commune, with 6 fishermen on board, was anchored in the sea at coordinates 106 degrees North longitude to take a lunch break, when it was suddenly hit by an iron-hulled fishing boat carrying goods from North to South.
The strong collision caused the fishing boat of fishermen Son Hai to break apart, seawater flooded in and it gradually sank. Fortunately, after the collision, the North-South cargo ship discovered it and returned to rescue all 7 fishermen from the sunken boat.
The fishermen are currently on their way to the mainland, expected to arrive at Cua Lo port (Nghe An) on the morning of March 6.
According to information from the fishermen in distress, the cause of the collision at sea was due to thick fog, making it difficult for the North-South cargo ship to detect and crash into the fishing boat.
