Train crashes into truck carrying wood, driver dies

After the strong collision, the train pushed the truck another 300 meters before stopping. As a result, the truck driver Tang Xuan Minh died on the spot.

Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Duc Hoai, Deputy Head of Traffic Police Department, Binh Dinh Provincial Police, said that at about 9:30 a.m. on March 18, passenger train SQN4 on its journey from Saigon to Dieu Tri Station, when passing through Van Canh district, collided with a truck carrying wood chips crossing a residential road.

After the strong collision, the train pushed the truck forward for another 300 meters before stopping. As a result, truck driver Tang Xuan Minh (56 years old, living in Ngo May ward, Quy Nhon city) died on the spot. Mr. Tran Bon (truck assistant) was seriously injured and was taken to Binh Dinh General Hospital in critical condition.

Upon receiving the news, Binh Dinh Traffic Police arrived at the scene to coordinate with relevant agencies to organize the rescue. At the scene, the truck carrying wood chips was deformed, tons of wood chips were scattered everywhere, and the train engine was derailed and severely damaged.

According to the initial investigation, when the SQN4 passenger train reached An Long 2 village, Canh Vinh commune, Van Canh district (Binh Dinh), it crashed into a truck carrying wood chips that suddenly crossed the residential road. The truck was carrying about 16 tons of wood chips from Van Canh Industrial Park and was on its way to Quy Nhon Port when the accident happened. The location of the accident was about 8 km south of Dieu Tri Station.

As of 3 p.m. the same day, traffic on the North-South railway line had not yet resumed. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

The railway is hidden in a local acacia plantation, making rescue operations difficult. Authorities had to mobilize dozens of workers and specialized cranes to the scene.
