The US Navy's 2nd Fleet will officially become operational on August 24 to counter the activities of the Russian submarine fleet.

Information about the Pentagon considering restoring the US Navy's 2nd fleet was announced not long ago. The reason for this move by the US is said to be to counter threats from the Russian Navy in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean regions.

Russian submarines launch missiles from the sea, threatening the US and its allies.

The Second Fleet was established in 1947 with the mission of controlling the North Atlantic, from the coast of the United States to the coast of Russia. However, it has been inactive since 2011. But according to the official source of the “Voice of America” radio station, from August 24, this Fleet will be revived.

According to Admiral John Richardson, the fleet's command center will be co-located with NATO Command in Norfolk, allowing the United States and its allies to be ready to counter threats from Russia.

Fox News quoted expert Lucas Tomlinson as saying that the main reason the United States had to take this step was because Russian submarines were actively operating in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean regions.

Recall that when they began participating in the anti-terrorist campaign in Syria, Russian submarines launched a series of cruise missiles to the amazement of the whole world.

Mr. Tomlinson went on to emphasize that, two months before the Helsinki summit, Russia's newest submarine in the White Sea launched four ballistic missiles with a radius of up to 6,000 miles, allowing them to strike Washington.

Most recently, on August 7, the Russian submarine Severomorsk and the cruiser Marshal Ustinov passed through the English Channel into the Atlantic Ocean, near the British coast. This move by Russia forced British warships to operate continuously day and night.

It is clear that in just a short time Russian submarines have increased their activities compared to the previous 25 years.

Another reason is that the United States and its allies are concerned that the increased presence of Russian submarines could hamper their warships, especially in international waters.

Not stopping there, the United States and its allies continue to find ways to restrain Russia's development. Accordingly, a few days ago, the United States announced the imposition of additional sanctions on Russia for various accusations.

The commissioning of the 2nd Fleet shows that US President Donald Trump is ready to act more strongly and convincingly in the North Atlantic.

In response to these moves by the United States, a member of the Scientific Council of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Doctor of Political Science Andrei Manoylo, stated that Russia does not threaten anyone in the military or diplomatic sphere.

For all the US concerns about Russia's growing military presence in different parts of the world are an objective consequence of Russia's military reforms and its growing military power.
