According to International Business Times, the hyperloop is a unique idea of American billionaire Elson Musk, introduced in 2013. Musk believes that Hyperloop will become the means of transportation of the future.
Hyperloop travels in a vacuum tube, with capsules carrying passengers or cargo propelled along a series of electromagnets. The reduced friction due to the low air pressure allows the train to reach speeds of nearly 800 mph (1,280 km/h) when idling and 750 mph (1,216 km/h) when carrying passengers. This means it would take just 30 minutes to travel from Los Angeles to San Francisco, USA.
Rob Lloyd, CEO of Hyperloop Transportation Technology (HHT), said the advantage of the Hyperloop train is that it consumes very little energy. However, many opinions are skeptical about the feasibility of this technology. When the train moves at such a fast speed, the safety of passengers in case of an accident or natural disaster will not be guaranteed.
Despite skepticism, the Hyperloop project is moving forward. HHT has filed permits to build an 8-kilometer track in Quay Valley, California. Quay Valley is home to 75,000 people and is a completely solar-powered city located between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
HHT said it will begin surveying land near Quay Valley in February and March. Construction on the Hyperloop is expected to begin around mid-2016. The first train could be ready for passenger service in 2018.
