The latest discovery by scientists in the UK has found that the cold virus has the ability to fight and destroy cancer cells easily.
The Telegraph reports that a small study published today reveals that in the future, curing cancer could be as simple as catching a cold. Specifically, researchers at the University of Surrey in the UK have discovered a special strain of the cold virus – called Coxsackievirus, or CVA21 – that has the ability to destroy cancer cells in the patient's body.
Based on the research report, the team of scientists conducted a test on 15 patients diagnosed with bladder cancer. The patients were injected with the cold virus CVA21 a week before surgery to remove the tumor. The virus's task is to make infected cells look more dangerous and easier to detect, thereby stimulating the immune system to quickly respond.

Professor Hardev Pandha, of the Cancer Centre at the University of Surrey, said: "This virus can enter cancer cells and kill them by activating immune proteins, which act as signals for other immune cells to come and kill them."
The researchers said that the cold virus had been tested on skin cancer before, but this was the first time it had been used in a clinical setting on bladder cancer. Furthermore, none of the patients who participated in the study experienced serious side effects during the cancer treatment, which they called a potential breakthrough.
In addition to treating bladder cancer, scientists here continue to find ways to deal with other types of cancer. This is considered a new door opening for Welsh medicine in particular and the world in general.
