Speaking on the sidelines of the Iran-Russia Business Forum taking place in Tehran, Iranian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Mehdi Sanai said: "Regarding cooperation between the two countries, including security and defense, Russia has completed the transfer of the S-300 air defense system to Iran."
In 2007, Russia and Iran signed a contract to supply five S-300 systems.
In September 2010, then Russian President Dmitry Medvedev canceled the contract worth more than 800 million USD to comply with a United Nations Security Council resolution banning the supply of conventional weapons to Iran.
Iran has filed a lawsuit with the Geneva Arbitration Court demanding compensation of nearly $4 billion from Russia for breach of contract.
In April 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree lifting the ban on supplying the S-300 system to Iran after Tehran and world powers reached a historic agreement on Iran's nuclear issue.
In April 2016, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said that Iran had withdrawn its lawsuit against Russia at the International Court of Arbitration, and this solution had also been approved by the Iranian Parliament.
Moscow then proceeded to transfer a batch of S-300 air defense system equipment to the Tehran government.
