Thief who broke into Can Linh pagoda 7 times was caught while playing game

Vinh City Police said they have just arrested the suspect responsible for a series of thefts of donation boxes at local pagodas.

In early June 2022, at Can Linh Pagoda (in Block 10, Cua Nam Ward, Vinh City), there were cases of donation box theft, causing panic among the people and nuns at the Pagoda. Immediately after receiving the report, Vinh City Police began investigating and clarifying. Through camera extraction, the authorities determined that only one person had committed these thefts, he broke into the pagoda, stoledonation boxgo out and break the lock and take all the money in the boxes.

After 2 days of tracking and using synchronous professional measures, on June 14, Vinh City Police arrested the criminal while he was "absorbed" in playing games in an internet cafe in the city.

The subject is Le Huy Y (born in 1999, residing in Hanh Lam commune, Thanh Chuong district, who has 4 previous convictions for theft. From March 31, 2022 to June 10, 2022, he broke into Can Linh pagoda 7 times to steal property.

At the investigation agency, the subject confessed that because he had no stable job and was addicted to playing games, he stole property to get money to spend. Realizing that places of worship and religious establishments often lacked vigilance, he sneaked in to steal donation boxes, using rocks to break the boxes to take property.

According to the subject's confession, the initial investigation determined that the stolen property was nearly 4 million VND in cash and 1 necklace. Currently, the authorities are completing the file to handle the subject in accordance with the law.
