How many days off are there for New Year's Day?
In addition to presenting two options for the 2017 Lunar New Year holiday, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs also proposed options for holidays and New Year's Day in 2017. The official holiday schedule is expected to be approved by the Government in the coming days.
According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the beneficiaries of this policy are officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers of administrative agencies, public service organizations, political organizations, and socio-political organizations (referred to as officials and public employees).
New Year's Day holiday 2017: Proposal for a 3-day break.
Since New Year's Day falls on a Sunday, which is also a weekly day off, civil servants and public employees will be given a compensatory day off on Monday, January 2nd, 2017.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs has proposed that civil servants and public employees take a holiday from December 31, 2016 to January 2, 2017 for the New Year's Day holiday. This will be a total of three consecutive days off. There will be no swapped days off during this period.
Hung Kings Commemoration Day Holiday: Two options
Option 1: Take a public holiday on Thursday, with a working day in between on Friday, April 7th, 2017 (which is the 11th day of the third lunar month).
Option 2: Swap one working day with one weekly day off. Work on Saturday, April 15, 2017, to take Friday, April 7, 2017, off. The total number of days off for this period is four consecutive days, from Thursday (April 6, 2017) to Sunday (April 9, 2017).

Victory Day (April 30th), International Labor Day (May 1st): 4 days off.
Since Victory Day on April 30th falls on a Sunday, which is a weekly day off, civil servants and public employees will have a compensatory day off on Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017.

National Day holiday on September 2nd: 3 consecutive days off.
Since National Day on September 2nd, 2017 falls on a Saturday, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs proposes that civil servants and public employees be given a compensatory day off on Monday, September 4th, 2017.

The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs notes that agencies and organizations that do not follow a fixed 2-day weekend holiday schedule (Saturday and Sunday) should arrange their holiday schedule based on their specific programs and plans.
Regarding the Lunar New Year holiday in 2017, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs presented two options: a 7-day holiday and a 10-day holiday. The Ministry proposed a 7-day holiday because the 2 days before Tet (not too short) and 5 days after Tet (not too long) are suitable for production, allowing workers to rest and stimulating consumer spending. |
