Of these, more than 1,800 cases had to be hospitalized after fighting and 11 cases died.

According to a quick report from the Ministry of Health, from the 27th to the 3rd day of the Lunar New Year, every day hospitals across the country received thousands of traffic accident victims, hundreds of people requiring emergency treatment due to fights, and hundreds of cases requiring treatment due to firecrackers.

Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien visited traffic accident patients at Bach Mai Hospital on the night of the 30th of Lunar New Year.

As of the morning of the third day of the Lunar New Year, in addition to receiving nearly 275 cases of medical examination and emergency treatment due to firecrackers, hospitals nationwide also received 3,442 people who had to be treated after fighting. Of these, more than 1,800 cases had to be hospitalized after fighting and 11 cases had died.

In addition, nearly 14,000 cases were recorded coming to medical facilities for examination and emergency treatment due to domestic and work accidents, of which 16 people died.

Like many years before, this year during the Lunar New Year holiday, the number of traffic accident victims admitted to hospitals still accounts for the majority. From 7am on the 2nd to 7am on the 3rd of Tet alone, about 7,300 traffic accident victims were recorded.

During the nearly 6-day Tet holiday, at least 117 people died in traffic accidents. According to records at Viet Duc Hospital (Hanoi), the number of traffic accident victims was mainly related to alcohol.

Faced with this situation, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien advised: “According to our survey, the victims are mainly young people, riding motorbikes after drinking alcohol. Besides, there are also many people who, after drinking alcohol, argued and fought, leading to hospitalization. Therefore, during Tet, people should eat nutritious food, not drink too much, have appropriate rest, and especially limit alcohol consumption, especially before participating in traffic. Currently, 35% of traffic accident deaths are due to drinking alcohol, not to mention serious underlying injuries such as traumatic brain injury, affecting the health of the patient and social issues.”
