Thailand invests 400-500 billion baht to prevent floods
According to the Bangkok Post, on October 25, the Thai cabinet will discuss a flood prevention and water management program with the aim of preventing similar floods. The cost to implement the program is about 400-500 billion baht (about 13-16 billion USD).
Previously, on October 24, the Thai government proposed a flood disaster recovery package worth 25 billion baht (about 810 million USD). This amount of money focuses on supporting 7 large industrial establishments in Thailand to restore operations within 45 days after the flood recedes.
Pata Shopping Center, Pin Klao area, Bangkok hit by flood
The Thai government said the damage from the flood disaster could be as high as 500 billion baht ($16 billion). In industrial zones alone, the damage has reached 381 billion baht (about 12.4 billion USD).
According to Reuters, Malaysian Foreign Minister Anifah Aman on October 24 presented $1 million to Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra at the Flood Relief Operations Command Center at Don Muang Airport to help Thailand overcome the consequences of the natural disaster. Mr. Anifah Aman hopes to establish an ASEAN Coordinating Center for Humanitarian Assistance at the ASEAN Summit in Bali (Indonesia) in November to help member countries respond promptly to difficulties.
So far, at least 356 people have died in Thailand due to floods.
