Deputy Commander of the Royal Thai Police (RTP), General Srivara Ransibrahmanakul, has just instructed the international cooperation department of the Thai police to coordinate with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) to search for former Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, Nation reported on August 28.
Ms. Yingluck is believed to have left Thailand on August 23 for Cambodia and then boarded a plane to Singapore. She is currently in Dubai and intends to seek asylum in the UK.
RTP International Cooperation Director Major General Apichart Suriboonya said Thai police contacted Cambodian authorities after reports that Ms Yingluck had fled to the neighboring country. However, Cambodia said there was no information about her presence in the country.
General Apichart also said that the RTP would contact the UAE, an Interpol member state, to verify information about Ms. Yingluck's presence in the Middle Eastern country. He said that if foreign police discovered Ms. Yingluck's whereabouts, the RTP would request an international arrest warrant. However, he also acknowledged that the decision to handle the case rested with Interpol.
Earlier, police in Lat Phrao district in Bangkok said that Ms. Yingluck was last seen at her home at around 2 p.m. on August 23. Police checked security cameras around her home in Bangkok as well as in Chiang Mai but found no trace of Ms. Yingluck.
