Thai Thi Hoa wears a 'copycat' dress at Miss Earth 2020 - designer Tom Kara speaks out

Miss Earth 2020(Miss Earth 2020) entered the evening gown competition online. Each girl had to send photos and videos of her performance to the organizers.

Thai Thi Hoa - representative of Vietnam wore a body-hugging mermaid dress, with the highlight being the cut-out detail on the chest combined with meticulously embellished sparkling stones.

Thai Thi Hoa (26 years old), from Gia Lai, she is 1.75 meters tall, with measurements of 84-62-95 cm. She currently runs a company. In addition to business, she performs in some fashion shows.

However, netizens discovered that this outfit is 90% similar to the evening gown design launched by fashion house Valdrin Sahiti in December 2019.

Speaking to the media, Tom Kara - the designer in charge of Thai Thi Hoa's evening gowns - said:"When I first entered my current field of activity, I thought of myself as a fashion entrepreneur and the title of designer came to me by chance, and I found myself having to adapt, learn and invest. But in my mind, the greatest desire is still to be a successful fashion entrepreneur. And I set out for myself two very clear business directions:

1. High-end fashion costume rental: costumes are tailored, sold and rented according to customer needs. (The service mainly serves the diverse needs of customers, so costumes can borrow ideas from famous fashion houses in the world as requested by customers).

2. Design high-end fashion clothing (I personally come up with ideas, design drawings, choose materials, cut, sew, attach and control until the final finishing stage).

First of all, I would like to confirm that the relationship between me and Thai Thi Hoa is a first-class relationship.

When Hoa's manager asked me to sponsor the Miss Earth online pageant this time, I refused because of the time constraint. I only accept designs for contestants in world-class competitions from sketches to finished products with the condition of over 90 days.

So Hoa's manager came to my showroom to choose a ready-made dress to rent for Hoa, because with such a short time, investing in a high-end and creative evening gown design is very difficult. It requires many factors: time, effort, brains...

The evening gown that everyone is talking about can be done faster than a design because it basically has a finished product in real life so it won't take much time and won't require much brainpower to think. But with the hand-decorated technique, it also requires a relatively long time and the gown has to be shipped after at least 60 days.

I received a design contract for Miss Eco VietNam Doan Hong Trang to compete in Miss Eco VietNam 2021 in Egypt. Trang was very thoughtful and had time to prepare, so she asked me to design her outfit very early. Therefore, I have more time to be creative with my own designs."
