54 years of Cuba-Vietnam friendship

On the afternoon of January 4, at the Vietnam National News Center, a rally was held to celebrate the 54th anniversary of the National Day of the Republic of Cuba (January 1, 1959 - January 1, 2013) co-organized by the Vietnam News Agency and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association.

Attending the ceremony were Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the National Assembly, President of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam Fredesman Turo Gonzalez; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Vietnam Jorge Rondon Uzcategui; General Director of Vietnam News Agency Nguyen Duc Loi; President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations Vu Xuan Hong; Deputy Minister of Construction Tran Son and representatives of the Central External Relations Commission, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, etc.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the National Assembly, President of the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan affirmed: “We believe that with their bravery and strong will, the heroic Cuban people will continue to overcome all difficulties and challenges, successfully implement the resolution of the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba on updating the economic model, maintaining and promoting the Vietnamese social achievements in many fields such as education, health care, sports…”

Ms. Kim Ngan also called on the US government to quickly lift the unjust and unreasonable embargo against Cuba that has lasted for half a century.

In the presence of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Vietnam Jorge Rondon Uzcategui and Venezuelan guests, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan asked the Ambassador to convey her regards and wishes for President Hugo Chavez Frías's speedy recovery, wishing the President a speedy recovery to continue leading the Venezuelan people's Bolivarian revolution to glorious victory.

In an emotional atmosphere, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam Fredesman Turo Gonzalez, on behalf of the Party, Government and people of Cuba, thanked Vietnam for its consistent support, assistance and solidarity.

The Ambassador shared that the Vietnamese Government's reaffirmation of its desire to continue developing and promoting projects related to the Food Security Program being implemented in Cuba with the help of Vietnamese experts is extremely important to Cuba.

For the Cuban people, January 1st is a day of great significance. Because it is the anniversary of the successful Revolution, the heroic epic written by brave soldiers in the mountains and plains under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, who in 1959 brought freedom and eternal independence to the Cuban people after more than a century of heroic and tireless struggle…

At the ceremony, Deputy General Director of Vietnam News Agency Le Duy Truyen also sent his warmest congratulations to the leaders of the Party, State and people of Cuba on the occasion of the 54th anniversary of the National Day of the Republic of Cuba.

“The past 54 years have marked the continuous consolidation and enhancement of the solidarity, brotherly friendship and close cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba, sown by President Ho Chi Minh and Cuban national hero José Martí, and cultivated by generations of leaders and people of the two countries,” said Mr. Truyen.

Mr. Truyen especially emphasized that the close relationship is being expanded and developed in cooperation that has brought about initial good results between the two countries in many fields, including education, health, trade, agriculture, construction, etc.

Mr. Truyen also affirmed: “With firm belief in the victory of the Cuban Revolution, we wish the Cuban people success in updating the economic model, continuing to move the Cuban Revolution forward, and successfully building a rich, prosperous, and socialist Cuba.”./.
