The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that in January 2016, there is a possibility of 4-5 cold air waves affecting the North.

The cold air will cause about 1-2 severe cold spells in the North, concentrated in the second half of the month. However, the effects of severe cold will not last long.

Also in January, the North may have many rainy days, concentrated in the middle of the month. The Central Central provinces to the South generally have little rain, with rainfall tending to be lower than the average of many years. Therefore, drought and water shortage will continue to occur, especially in the South Central, Central Highlands and Southern regions.

The average temperature trend for January is forecast to be 1-1.5 degrees Celsius higher in the West than the average value of many years, and 0.5-1 degrees Celsius higher in the East.

In the Central region, the common temperature is about 0.5-1.5 degrees Celsius higher than the average value of many years. In the Central Highlands and the South, the common temperature is about 1-2 degrees Celsius higher than the average value of many years.

Monthly rainfall trends in the North are generally 40-70% higher than the average value of many years; in the Northern Delta region alone, it is about 20-40% higher than the average value of many years in the same period.

Rainfall in the North Central provinces is approximately equal to the average value of many years; the Central and South Central provinces are about 20-50% deficient compared to the average of many years in the same period.

The Central Highlands and the South generally have little rain, with total rainfall in January generally being less than 5mm.
