Hanoi has temporarily suspended all road and sidewalk digging activities from August 1 to September 5, 2025 to ensure traffic safety, limit congestion and environmental pollution during the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2.

In preparation for the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, the Hanoi Department of Construction has issued an urgent notice to temporarily suspend road and sidewalk excavation throughout the city. This decision takes effect from today, August 1, and will last until September 5, 2025.

Exceptions only apply to emergency incident handling projects or key projects licensed by the City People's Committee and the Department of Construction.

The Department of Construction requests the People's Committees of wards and communes and the Infrastructure Investment Project Management Board (IPMB) to strengthen supervision and urge contractors to speed up construction progress. Items and packages must be completed, the site restored and cleaned before August 10, 2025 to ensure traffic order and the environment.

The Department of Construction requested the City Police and the City Inspectorate to coordinate in inspecting and strictly handling violations by investors, Project Management Boards and contractors who do not comply with regulations. Traffic infrastructure management units such as the Traffic Infrastructure Maintenance Board and the City Technical Infrastructure Management Center are also required to closely inspect and report cases beyond their authority to the Department of Construction.

The People's Committees of wards and communes are assigned to direct the Infrastructure Investment Project Management Board, investors and contractors to speed up the progress of licensed projects. Units must complete items, clear the site, ensure traffic safety, environmental sanitation and urban aesthetics, and comply with the order to temporarily stop digging roads and sidewalks from August 1 to September 5, 2025.

The temporary suspension of road and sidewalk excavation is an effort by Hanoi to reduce traffic congestion, environmental pollution and create favorable conditions for people during major holidays. This decision also contributes to improving urban aesthetics, preparing for important events of the capital.

Long Thanh Airport is expected to welcome 100 million passengers/year, comparable to Dubai, Tokyo, London.
