Electromagnetic elevator without cable
A German company has created an elevator that can move horizontally and vertically on a magnetic levitation system without cables.

ThyssenKrupp in Germany last week launchedtest tower246 m high forMulti elevator in Rottweil, Germany, safter nearly three years of construction. This tower has 12 compartments that can test maglev elevators at speeds of up to 18 m/s to replace traditional cable elevators.
The Multi elevator system was first introduced by ThyssenKrupp in 2014, using a system similar to a maglev train instead of conventional cables, according toAtlasThis system allows elevators to move both vertically and horizontally, opening up many new architectural creative directions for high-rise buildings.
According to ThyssenKrupp, the elevator cabin moves on a magnetic levitation system that can change direction horizontally to move to another compartment. This technology uses a magnetic coil that runs along the elevator car, pushing on a magnet on the outside of the car, allowing the car to glide along the path. Multiple elevator cars can move up in one car and down in another in a continuous loop, like a circular train system.
ThyssenKrupp says Multi users will not have to wait for an elevator for more than 15-30 seconds. The system does not use cables, so elevator compartments do not need to be built vertically. Because multiple cabins can be placed in one compartment, the system also saves space in the building. The new elevator model is much lighter than other types of elevators due to its carbon composite construction and the elimination of cables.
The ideal height for installing the Multi system is 300 m but the system can be used for smaller projects.
