Mr. An happily shared: “Every winter crop, I grow 3 sao of shallots, 1 sao of shallots yields from 2.5 to 3 quintals. At current prices, after deducting expenses, 1 sao yields nearly 10 million VND. This year, expanding the area and receiving support of 5 million VND per hectare, I and everyone else are very excited.”
Not only Mr. An but also tens of thousands of households in Thanh Chuong district are very excited about winter crop production, because for many years now, winter crop has become the main crop. The winter crop production process has also formed specialized areas to suit the land, soil, customs and socio-economic efficiency such as: corn and mustard greens in the Lam river bank area; vegetables, potatoes, squash, cucumbers, shallots, scallions in the central area of the district; climbing green beans in the Cho Con area.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Mao - Chairman of Thanh Van Commune People's Committee said: "Thanh Van Commune is a unit with a tradition of growing winter crops, so this year the locality has converted all the land to growing other crops, giving priority to growing chives on fishing nets - because this is a crop that gives very high efficiency in previous winter crops. This conversion has been supported by the province, so the locality and people are very excited". In addition to traditional crops, many new varieties have appeared such as: cauliflower, squash, bitter melon, and corn varieties for livestock. The production value of the winter crop is estimated to reach about 1/4 of the income in the agricultural sector.
