This is an orange variety imported from Australia. After being planted in Suong hamlet, Thanh Duc commune (Thanh Chuong), it has shown many outstanding advantages compared to other orange varieties.
Australian oranges are genetically modified from tomato and carrot plants into orange and lemon trees. The oranges have large fruits, red-pink flesh, and are very sweet. On average, each fruit weighs 0.5 - 0.7 kg. According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Nam, the owner of an orange farm in Suong hamlet, Thanh Duc commune, he bought this Australian orange variety in Da Lat and brought it back to test-plant locally on nearly 1 hectare. It has been 4 years now, and the tree has been bearing fruit since last year. Through actual planting, this orange variety is suitable for the local soil. Currently, Australian oranges are sold for 65,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, but it is still not enough to meet the market demand.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Son - Vice Chairman of Thanh Duc Commune People's Committee added: This Australian orange variety has been brought back for experimental planting by some households, although the area is not large, the productivity and efficiency have been clearly shown. In the coming time, the commune will consider encouraging farmers to apply science and technology to invest in more new and strange varieties of trees with higher value to enrich local specialties./.
