Vinh City Youth Union launched a response to World No Tobacco Day (May 31)

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 30, Vinh City Youth Union organized a launching ceremony in response to World No Tobacco Day (May 31).

According to WHO statistics, on average, 6 million people die each year worldwide from diseases related to tobacco use. Vietnam is among the 15 countries with the highest number of smokers in the world. Smoking affects health and poses many risks of disease to both the smoker and passive smokers; smoking is the second leading cause of death after HIV/AIDS.

At the launching ceremony, Vinh City Youth Union requested that Youth Union officials should set an example and encourage young union members not to smoke at work and in public places where smoking is prohibited. Strengthen communication about the harmful effects of tobacco. Disseminate the Law on Prevention of Tobacco Harms; Disseminate to relatives and youth union members about the harmful effects of smoking on their own health and those around them.

At the launching ceremony, 25 ward and commune youth unions signed a commitment to respond to World No Tobacco Day and National No Tobacco Week./.
