Singer Dam Vinh Hung and musician Nguyen Ha believe that "questioning" the phenomenon of many Southern singers who are successful without studying like Thanh Lam is negative.

Known for her outspoken and individualistic personality, singer Thanh Lam is not afraid to touch the ground when giving her opinions about her colleagues and music. Recently, she caused a stir in the music industry when she questioned why many singers in the South, who are not educated, are still famous thanks to the media.

Singer Dam Vinh Hung, musicians Nguyen Ha and Nguyen Vu all said that the Vietnamese music diva's statement was subjective. They frankly shared their views on fame and Bolero music.

Dam Vinh Hung: "Thanh Lam is deepening the gap between singers from the two regions"

I think there are two possible problems. First, the conversation was long but was cut off right at that sentence. If this happened, it would be a shame for the artist.

Secondly, if Ms. Lam said that in a moment of excitement, it would be a bit shallow and self-isolating. If not, she would have deepened the gap between singers from the North and South.

Dam Vinh Hung believes that fame is decided by fate and ancestors.

I also do not know what Ms. Lam wants when giving her opinion about the popularity of Southern singers like that. Such a comment should not come from a "superior" person like Ms. Lam. Here, I am speaking with a very calm mind, without any anger or resentment.

It is true that in the South, there are many famous singers who did not receive formal training. But everyone in the arts understands that fame does not come from how many degrees you have or how many years you have studied in school. Fame is determined by fate and by the profession. There are many people who have master's and doctoral degrees in vocal music, but are they famous?

In the past, many famous singers like Khanh Ly, Elvis Phuong, Cam Van, Thanh Tuyen did not go to any school but they were still monuments in the music industry. Or like Bang Kieu who was trained in trumpet but became a famous singer... But that's okay, she is an excellent artist so she can say whatever she wants.

Regarding Bolero music, what you said is being exploited a lot is true. But saying that exploitation distorts music is not true. This music genre is popular at this time because the audience has a need, just like food and fashion are popular.

But don't think that Bolero is easy to sing. There are people with PhDs in vocal music but their Bolero singing is not accepted by the audience. Bolero does not require such degrees.

Or to put it more bluntly, the more qualifications you have, the less you can sing Bolero. It's hard to sing and get the audience to accept it, but anyone can talk nonsense outside.

Nguyen Vu: "Ms. Thanh Lam's statement is inaccurate and subjective"

I was very surprised by Ms. Thanh Lam's statement. I have not seen famous singers like Khanh Ha, Huong Lan... complaining or criticizing their juniors, but why do some artists with positions like to judge their colleagues and the music that others sing? They just do their job well. If it is noble, then revive the music they pursue rather than criticizing Bolero.

Nguyễn Vũ khẳng định không ca sĩ nổi tiếng nào mà không có thực lực, trau dồi và học tập.
Nguyen Vu affirms that there is no famous singer without talent, training and study.

Nguyen Vu affirms that there is no famous singer without talent, training and study.

I think your point of view is wrong and subjective. How does she know that famous singers are not educated? Many people do not study in a conservatory like you but learn from private teachers, learning by profession is also learning. Is there any famous singer who does not know anything about singing?

Fame does not come easily. To be a singer, you must first have a gifted voice, musical acumen, and especially a natural stage presence to be famous.

Ms. Lam’s comment that Southern singers become famous through the media is even more wrong. If a singer has no real talent, how can the media promote him? In reality, the media only looks for singers who are loved by the audience. If that person is not interested in the audience, who will read the articles about him?

I think a famous singer must be someone who makes the audience spend money to watch the show, buy the CD and attract ticket sales. It is because of their attraction that the media pays attention. In fact, I have never seen anyone who has no voice, is useless and incompetent, but thanks to the media and press, becomes famous.

Musician Nguyen Ha: "Thanh Lam's comments are very problematic"

I find Ms. Thanh Lam's comment about Southern singers who are still famous without studying very problematic. I don't understand her concept of studying. Does studying with her mean going to a regular class and getting a degree from a music conservatory?

I think, learning in life is very broad. A child has learned since he was in his mother’s womb. When he grew up, before going to school, his parents taught him many things about how to speak, how to behave, etc. Bill Gates did not graduate from university but he is still successful and famous all over the world.

As for singers, to be successful, they have to learn a lot, not just about singing. Never think that having money means having everything. Throwing a lot of money but not knowing how to live, no one will give you the best things to be successful.

Singers on stage are applauded by the audience, but behind that, there must be the support of many people in terms of harmony, arrangement, costumes, etc. A singer alone cannot do everything. Therefore, only when they build good relationships, can they have good allies to help them succeed.

Therefore, I think Ms. Thanh Lam's statement is shallow and confused. It seems that she is not satisfied with what she has, so she has to complain and criticize others like that.
