Thanh Lan returns to Vietnam to sing for the first time after 25 years

The singer famous for French songs will perform "When We Were Young" in Ho Chi Minh City on July 29.

At the Bang bang (When We Were Young) music night, Thanh Lan reunited with domestic audiences with about 20 French and Vietnamese songs that had made her famous in the past. For the first time, she also sang a duet with Tuan Ngoc and Elvis Phuong at the show.

Thanh Lan's real name is Pham Thai Thanh Lan, born in 1948 in Vinh city, Nghe An. YearAt the age of nine, she studied piano with nuns at Saint Paul School, and was later instructed by musician Tham Oanh's wife and musician Nghiem Phu Phi. While still a high school student, Thanh Lan sang in musician Nguyen Duc's Viet Nhi band. She alsoActive in the Hai Au student band of musician Le Huu Ha - one of the first bands with a tendency to Vietnamize youth music in Saigon.

In the late 1960s, Thanh Lan was often invited to sing folk songs from three regions on television. This was also the time when Saigon had its first television programs.

As a first-year student at the Faculty of Letters, Thanh Lan became famous for her French songs. Thanh Lan's image appeared on music covers displayed everywhere. During the period of strong development of the Vietnamese youth music movement, she was a good co-star with singer Nhat Truong through the love songs of Tran Thien Thanh. The duo also collaborated in the TV series Tren Dinh Mua Dong and Mong Thuong - two films broadcast before 1975, written and directed by Nhat Truong. She has a long history in cinema, having acted in many films, including Van bai lat ngua by director Le Hoang Hoa.

Thanh Lan is remembered through songs such as: Co di mua troi tre, Di qua vung co non, Phuong hong, Em di chua Huong, Trieu doa hoa hong, Khi xua ta be (Bang bang), Tro ve mai nha xua (Come back to Sorrento), Bup be khong tinh yeu, Gian thien ly da xa, Samba Mambo, Trung Vuong khung cua mua thu... The female singer had many successful shows in the early 1990s.

At the end of 1993, she moved to California, USA to settle down.and continue performing.
